China UnionPay, also known as UnionPay or by its abbreviation, CUP, is a global payment network with acceptance footprint in 160 countries and regions.
It is the only domestic bank card organization in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Founded on March 26, 2002, China UnionPay is an association for China’s banking card industry, operating under the approval of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC, central bank of China).
It is also the only interbank network in China excluding Hong Kong and Macau, linking the ATMs of all banks throughout mainland China and widely accepted by the ATMs in Hong Kong and Macau. It is also an EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) network.
UnionPay cards can be used in more than a hundred country and region around the world, making it the third-largest payment network by value of transactions processed, behind Visa and MasterCard. Some UnionPay credit cards are also affiliated with American Express, MasterCard or Visa, and they can be used abroad as an American Express, MasterCard or Visa. Since 2006, China UnionPay cards can be used in over 100 countries outside China.
One of the countries is Indonesia. Why Soekarno-Hatta? This is simply because Jakarta International Airport is one of the busiest in Indonesia with high passenger volume with both locals and international travellers.
